The ALICE project laid the ground for a new flexible signal intelligence infrastructure for Armasuisse. The main characteristics of the developed data processing system are:
- distributed acquisition of signais, synchronized (sub-nanosecond precision) with the best commercially available system (the WhiteRabbit protocol);
- handling of a considerable amount of incoming data, through 40 Gb connections;
- reliance on standard components and protocols to avoid vendor Iock-in;
- concentration of the Processing Units (PUs) in a single physical location to reduce maintenance costs, thus increasing efficiency and flexibility (using load balancing), and avoiding the transmission of already-processed data.
